this movie is not only a hyped summer action flick but an eagerly-anticipated installment in a franchise that would bring in its large existing fanbase even if we hadn’t already successfully rebooted it

the plot is strong the pacing is good the filler is funny but you know what this film really needs?

a scene with highly-sexualized shots of a woman taking her clothes off

au where gaila is a programming genius and kirk asks her for ideas on how to finally win the fucking simulation and she takes pity on him and inserts the subroutine for him and they have sex to celebrate and “i think i love you” is all just a cultural misunderstanding because she is from a different planet where sex politics are WAY different so by her understanding of the word love yes she does love him the temporary nature of their liaison does not diminish her strong temporary feelings and at his disciplinary hearing he protects her identity because it was his idea to cheat the test after all and he feels bad for making her feel uncomfortable about the love thing

the kirk/gaila scene which leads into kirk watching uhura change for no apparent reason without her knowledge was kept in the film while they cut a scene detailing how gaila helped kirk cheat the kobayashi maru because she worked in the computer lab

uhura and gaila in underwear were in fact judged more important to the film than a key plot point and we are thus left to believe kirk exploited the subroutine all by himself with no help

i’m so glad that plot-irrelevant lady changing scenes are a theme in nu!trek thanks jj...
